Synopsis: The move comes after expelled AIADMK coordinator O Paneerselvam, KA Sengottaiyan, and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary TTV Dhinakaran came together and declared a new political “journey”, on Thursday, 30 October.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has removed former minister KA Sengottaiyan from the party on Friday, 31 October.

The release announcing the news read, “As he has acted in a manner contrary to the principles, objectives, and policies of the party; violated the party’s rules and regulations; and behaved in a way that disrupts party discipline; and since, despite being fully aware that members of the party should not maintain any contact with those who have been expelled from it, he has continued to associate with them—thereby bringing disrepute and disgrace to the party and tarnishing its dignity—K.A. Sengottaiyan, MLA (Gobi Chettipalayam Assembly Constituency), Erode (West) District, is hereby removed from all posts and responsibilities, including his position as a primary member of the party, with immediate effect. New political ‘journey’

The move comes after expelled AIADMK coordinator O Paneerselvam, KA Sengottaiyan, and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary TTV Dhinakaran came together and declared a new political “journey”, on Thursday, 30 October.

Meanwhile, responding to the alliance and a specific query on whether he would expel Sengottaiyan from the AIADMK, Palaniswami said he has no hesitation to remove Sengottaiyan if necessary.

Speaking to the press, they said their aim is to defeat the AIADMK led by Edappadi K Palaniswami — not the AIADMK founded by MGR and J Jayalalithaa.

“We have taken a pledge to unite and bring back the rule of Jayalalithaa and MGR in Tamil Nadu. As a mark of that commitment, we — along with Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam Secretary TTV Dhinakaran and KA Sengottaiyan — have come together. This alliance will continue,” Pannerselvam declared at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram.

‘Palaniswami’s AIADMK main opponent’

Dhinakaran, who spoke after Pannerselvam, named the alliance’s main rival.

“The AIADMK led by Edappadi Palaniswami is our opponent — not the original All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founded by MGR and Amma. Our party, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, was formed to defeat betrayal. We will stand united against that betrayal,” he said.

He further stated that the trio had come together to unite “Amma’s loyal followers to defeat betrayal and bring the AIADMK back to power once again. We are prepared to carry out our duties in the upcoming elections.”

Concluding the interaction, Sengottaiyan said, “The AIADMK is the movement created by MGR and Jayalalithaa. We all must come together and work to defeat the DMK.”

Before meeting the media, Panneerselvam and Sengottaiyan held discussions at a Madurai hotel. Both leaders then rode the same vehicle to Pasumpon. A few kilometres ahead of Pasumpon, Dhinakaran joined them.

‘Traitors cannot destroy AIADMK’

Later on Thursday, responding to the alliance, Palaniswami said “traitors” cannot destroy the AIADMK. “No matter how many betrayals or traitors come our way, they can never destroy the AIADMK. Our movement has faced greater challenges and stood strong. The AIADMK has no weakness. Sometimes weeds must be removed for the crop to grow well — that’s how we’ll protect our party.”

He was speaking to reporters near Kappalur in Madurai’s Thirumangalam.
