Synopsis: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned former Tamil Nadu Health Minister and TVK leader C Vijayabaskar and his wife, V Ramya, for questioning in a disproportionate assets case. Vijayabaskar has been asked to appear before the ED in Chennai on 6 November, while his wife has been summoned for next week; both had previously appeared before the agency in 2024, when their statements were recorded.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar and his wife, V Ramya, for questioning in a disproportionate assets case arising from allegations that he accumulated wealth beyond his known sources of income while in office between 2016 and 2021.

Vijayabaskar has been asked to appear at the ED’s zonal office in Chennai on Friday, 6 November, while Ramya has been summoned for questioning next week.

The ED is investigating the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The agency registered the case based on an FIR filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in 2021.

In its chargesheet filed in May 2023, the DVAC alleged that Vijayabaskar had amassed assets worth ₹35.79 crore.

On 21 March 2024, the ED searched Vijayabaskar’s residences in Illuppur in Pudukkottai district. Vijayabaskar and Ramya had also appeared before the agency in 2024 in response to an earlier summons, when their statements were recorded.

Vijayabaskar served as Health Minister in the AIADMK government from 2016 to 2021. He has represented Viralimalai in Pudukkottai district since 2011.

Following the 2026 Assembly election, he resigned as an AIADMK MLA and joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He is currently the party’s district organising secretary.
