The alleged abduction and gang-rape

On Sunday, the three accused allegedly abducted a 19-year-old college student and gang-raped her at a secluded place near the Chitra International Airport in Coimbatore.

The young woman was sitting in a car with a male friend near Brindavan Nagar when the bike-borne gang accosted them. The gang reportedly attacked the duo with a billhook and damaged the four-wheeler, before dragging her away to a vacant plot around 11.30 pm.

The woman’s male friend alerted the Peelamedu police. After a prolonged search, the police found the traumatised woman around 4 am on Monday and admitted her to a private hospital.

According to the man’s statement, he was in the car with the woman when the gang asked them to alight. His attempt to drive away was foiled, and the men abducted the woman. The man, who suffered injuries while trying to save his friend, has been admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.
