Giving a twist to the Kavin Selva Ganesh murder in Tirunelveli, the deceased man’s girlfriend released a video on Thursday, 31 July, saying her parents were innocent.
Software engineer Kavin, son of Chandrasekhar and Selvi from Arumugamangalam near Eral in the Thoothukudi district, was hacked to death on Sunday, 27 July, at the Palayamkottai area in Tirunelveli.
In the video statement, the woman said Kavin and she were deeply in love. “My younger brother Surjith knew about it. Surjith had informed our father about the relationship in May. When my father then asked me, I did not reveal anything since Kavin had said we could tell everything after six months,” she said
The woman, a Siddha practitioner, said Kavin and she had decided to meet on 28 July.
“On the 27th, without informing me, Kavin had come here with his family to get medical treatment for his grandfather. I met them at the hospital and spoke with his mother and other relatives. When I couldn’t find Kavin, I searched for him and came to know what had happened,” she said.
“I want to clearly say — neither my father nor my mother has anything to do with this incident,” the woman said, requesting not to spread rumours over the incident.
Her parents, Saravanan and Krishnakumari, both police sub-inspectors, were suspended from service to ensure an impartial and transparent investigation.
Kavin was stopped on the road, chased, and hacked to death, allegedly for being in a relationship with the woman.
Kavin was reportedly in love with Surjith’s sister since his schooldays in Thoothukudi. On knowing about the affair, the girl’s family shifted residence to KTC Nagar in Tirunelveli nearly a decade ago.
However, the couple reportedly continued their relationship over the phone and social media.
The deceased belonged to Devendra Kula Vellalar, a Scheduled Caste (SC) community, while the woman belongs to Maravar, a Most Backward Class (MBC) community.
