Fuelling political speculation, K Annamalai, on Thursday, 4 June, said that he will interacting with people on social media at 12 noon on Friday, 5 June, to share his thoughts and have an “open, heart-to-heart conversation”.

The post came after Annamalai expressed gratitude to party cadres, friends, well-wishers and supporters who wished him on his birthday.
In a post on social media, Annamalai said the love, affection and continued support extended to him had given him renewed motivation and energy to work with greater dedication for the welfare, safety and prosperous future of farmers, youth, women, children and all sections of society in Tamil Nadu.
“I remain forever indebted to your love and trust.” he said, while thanking everyone once again for making his birthday special with their wishes.

Annamalai met BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and senior BJP functionary B.L. Santhosh on Tuesday, 2 June, amid intense political speculation over his future in the party.
According to sources familiar with the developments, Annamalai discussed the BJP’s performance in the last Assembly election, the reasons behind the party’s defeat, the present political situation in Tamil Nadu, and his own political activities. Sources also said he conveyed his dissatisfaction over certain recent developments within the party.
During the meetings, Annamalai is said to have submitted a letter to the BJP leadership. Though he reportedly did not explicitly announce any decision, sources claimed the letter conveyed that “there was no point in continuing under the present circumstances.”
Sources close to Annamalai also confirmed that he had submitted a letter expressing his intention to step away from the party.
According to them, Annamalai is expected to remain politically silent for the time being. However, sources close to him claim that he may launch a new political party in the coming months. The sources also claimed that actor Rajinikanth is fully supportive of Annamalai’s political move.
