Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Citizenship (Amendment) Act was meant to give citizenship to minorities facing persecution in the neighbouring countries. The Congress, the AIMIM and others are opposing it to make political capital. Their opposition is only playing vote bank politics, he said, adding the Opposition parties had misunderstood the spirit and intent of the CAA.
