Prime Minister Narendra Modi Kashi Tamil Sangamam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to the visitors from Tamil Nadu at the Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi with the initial part of his speech being translated for them in real-time using Artificial Intelligence.

Beginning his speech at the launch of the event on Sunday, 18 December, the Prime Minister asked the audience to put on their earphones, saying that he is using AI technology for the first time to translate his address.

Modi expressed hope that artificial intelligence would make it easier for him to reach out to the people. “This is my first experience. In future, I will use it and you will have to respond. Now as I speak in Hindi, AI will translate it to Tamil,” he said.

The “experiment” with AI was meant for the first few minutes of the address. The remainder of his speech was translated into Tamil by an interpreter.
