BRS working president and Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao is getting the party’s poll machinery battle-ready.

Popularly known as KTR, he seems to be keen on stealing a march over the Opposition. He appointed district in-charges to coordinate party activities in the constituencies on Monday, 13 March.

KTR nominated the in-charges for better coordination as he wants the BRS to beat the BJP in the race for dominance in the November-December polls to the state Assembly.

Routing the BJP in the electoral battle has become important in the wake of the rising political temperatures in the state after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) called BRS MLC and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha to New Delhi for questioning in the Delhi Liquor Policy scam.

Top priority: Smooth coordination

She was questioned for close to nine hours on 11 March. The ED has asked her to present herself at its headquarters again on 16 March.

The ED questioning Kavitha made the BRS protest against the BJP, calling it the tormentor of all the Opposition parties.

Kavitha tried to expose the BJP’s hypocrisy on the Women’s Reservation Bill by organising a day-long hunger strike in Delhi, a day ahead of her questioning by the ED.

Meanwhile, the BJP has stepped up its offensive against KCR for perpetuating family rule in the state. The saffron party is hoping to win 90 seats in the 119-member house.

The in-charges have been asked to ensure smooth coordination of party activities in the constituencies in all districts.

BRS to hold several programmes

The programmes they have been asked to coordinate included BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on 14 April, party foundation day celebrations and the party student wing’s programmes.

The programmes have to be organised in the next four months to keep the party machinery oiled and running.

The in-charges will coordinate with the party’s district presidents and local MLAs to conduct the programmes.KTR asked them to immediately confer with ministers and MLAs, who have been asked to implement the programmes.

During a teleconference on Sunday, 12 March, KTR asked party district presidents and general secretaries to sensitise the nearly 60 lakh-strong cadre network on the programmes to be taken up ahead of the Assembly elections.

These programmes are meant to ensure that all leaders, big and small, should be among the people.

Community meetings

The most important of all these programmes are Aatmeeya sammelanams — or community meetings — to ensure bonding with workers at all levels.

He said the MLAs have to shoulder the responsibility of implementing the programmes.

He asked them to complete the Aatmeeya sammelanams ahead of the party’s foundation day on 27 April.

He suggested that the leaders should treat every 10 villages as a unit. They have been asked to inform the party leadership at Hyderabad, of the dates and the venues of the Aatmeeya sammelanams.

KTR also asked the party leaders to expedite the completion of the construction of the party offices in the districts. He wanted the work to be over by the party’s foundation day.

The BRS leader asked the party students’ wing to organise celebrations to welcome freshers to colleges so that they would get exposure to the BRS.
