Synopsis: Lokayukta police in Bengaluru arrested KAS officer Nagaprashanth PN after his driver was caught accepting ₹15 lakh, the second instalment of a ₹30 lakh bribe. The officer allegedly demanded money to deliver a favourable property order. A corruption case has been registered and investigation continues.
Karnataka Lokayukta police have arrested a Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer, Nagaprashanth PN, after his driver was caught accepting a bribe of ₹15 lakh on his behalf to secure a favourable order.
Nagaprashanth, serving as Special Assistant Commissioner of Bengaluru North and Special Land Acquisition Officer-1, Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board, had allegedly demanded a total of ₹30 lakh, with the first instalment already received a week earlier.
Acting under the supervision of superintendent of police Shiva Prakash Devaraj, Lokayukta officials laid a trap and apprehended the driver, Kumar, near the officer’s residence while he collected the second instalment. Nagaprashanth was later arrested, reported The Hindu.
The complaint was filed by Ravi Kumar of Yelahanka, who alleged the officer sought the bribe to deliver a favourable ruling in a property title dispute in which he is the General Power of Attorney holder.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Lokayukta police confirmed that the ₹15 lakh seized on Wednesday, 29 April, formed part of the ₹30 lakh total bribe demand, and further investigation is ongoing.
