Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy’s “Yatra for Change,” his version of Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra, suffered a minor setback on Saturday, 4 March, after a traffic pile-up involving cars that were part of his convoy.
Six cars were damaged in the multi-vehicle collision that caused injuries to their occupants.
The accident took place while Reddy was on his way to visit the Sripada Yellampalli project in Peddapalli district.
According to the police, the speeding cars were not maintaining a safe distance and the pile-up occurred when the car in front suddenly slowed down.
Though the airbags were deployed, some of the passengers sustained injuries. They included the staff of a few news channels who were covering Reddy’s yatra. The Congress leader was unhurt.
After inspecting the canal works, Reddy said that the change in contractors delayed its construction. He also spoke to officials and enquired about the delay, especially in the Package No: 9 works.
The Congress leader demanded the government blacklist the contractors who are responsible for the delay, which he said, would inflate the project costs.
“The government should have properly assessed whether a contractor is capable of executing the work before awarding the contract,” he said.
Reddy also interacted with the people of Nerella, who were reportedly tortured by the police in July last.
Eight Dalit villagers were allegedly subjected to third-degree torture. The police allegedly tortured them for torching a sand-laden lorry after it had run over a resident of the village on 2 July 2022.
The villagers met Reddy at Tangallapally and said their health started deteriorating after the torture. The Congress leader promised justice to them.
