Telangana Pradesh Congress Party (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy on Monday, 6 February, predicted that the Congress would come to power in the next Assembly election as the people want change in the state.

Speaking at the start of his ‘Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra’, kicked off after offering prayers at the Sammakka-Saralamma temple in Medaram, Revanth Reddy slammed the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for ignoring the development of the state — as well as Medaram.

He promised all-round development in Medaram if the Congress was voted to power in the next elections, and added that he took inspiration from deities Sammakka-Saralamma as he launched the yatra.

Analysis: Troubled times for the Congress in Telangana

Noting that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi did not take up ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ for the sake of elections, but to spark a movement, Reddy said ‘Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra’ had similar intentions, and would first cover Mahabubabad parliamentary constituency.

Reddy said the calculations in the state budget presented in Assembly by Finance Minister T Harish Rao were far from reality and said they no value. Given the situation in the ongoing budget session, the elected representatives were not in a position to speak in the Assembly, he said.

If the BRS government’s budget was ₹25 lakh crore in nine years, then how much was spent in 119 constituencies, he asked, adding, “Chandrashekar Rao strongly believes in money during elections, but I believe in people’s blessing”.

Inclusive yatra

Reddy said he would continue the yatra by including all the party leaders.

Referring to Congress MLA Seethaka, who was among the leaders who coordinated the arrangements for the yatra, Reddy said she was closely associated with his family.

After arriving at Medaram, Reddy offered special prayers and offered jaggery to the deities equal to his weight after weighing himself as per tradition.

Congress leaders welcomed Reddy with drumbeats and firecrackers. AICC Telangana in-charge Manick Rao Thakre, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Campaign Committee Chairman Madhu Yashki Goud, former MP M Anjan Kumar Yadav and other senior leaders were present.
