The teenager, a Class 9 student, was walking on the track when the train approached.

Train hits Hyderabad boy

In a video of the incident going viral on social media, the boy, Mohammad Sarfaraz, can be seen with his back to the approaching train and standing dangerously close to the track.

He died on the spot after being hit by the train on Friday, 5 May.

According to Sarfaraz’s father, his son had left their house in Yousufguda around 1 pm for Friday prayers

“I had asked him to offer prayers at home, but he said that he would offer namaz in the neighbourhood mosque and left,” his father said in a video statement circulated on social media..

He added that around 2.15 pm two of Sarfaraz’s school mates and friends — Muzammil and Sohail — came to the house and informed them about the incident.

Meanwhile, the railway staff informed the police about the accident. The cops took Sarfaraz’s body to Osmania General Hospital in Afzal Gunj for the post-mortem.

“Sarfaraz was hit by an MMTS [Multi-Modal Transport System] train, which is usually two feet wider than the usual trains. This might be the reason that the boy could not escape,” inspector Srinivas said.

The police also recovered a mobile phone from the spot.

“The friends of Sarfaraz alerted Station Superintendent first and then the railway staff alerted us around 4.30 pm,” the GRP inspector added.

A case under Section 174 CrPC (police to investigate and report on suicide) was registered.
