Synopsis: A radiologist in Karnataka’s Anekal has been booked for allegedly sexually harassing a patient during a diagnostic scan. The survivor has alleged that the accused touched her inappropriately on two occasions and threatened her when she questioned his conduct, prompting her to file a police complaint.

A radiologist at a scanning centre in Anekal, on the south-eastern outskirts of Bengaluru, has been booked for allegedly sexually harassing a patient.

The accused, Jayakumar, reportedly touched a 34-year-old mother of three inappropriately under the pretext of conducting a procedure.

In her complaint filed the same day with Anekal Police, the survivor said she visited Plasma Medinostics on Subhash Nagara Main Road on 10 November with her husband around 3 pm for a diagnostic test after being advised to do so by doctors at Anekal Government Hospital.

A case has been registered under Sections 75(1), 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The complainant has since been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Bengaluru for treatment.

Threats and abuses

In her complaint, the survivor alleged that Jayakumar “kept touching my private parts while scanning.” When she objected, the radiologist responded loudly, telling her, “This is how I do it; if you want it done, get it done, otherwise leave.”

The survivor stated that she left the scan room and informed her husband.

“As I felt very embarrassed, I came out of the scan room and told my husband about what happened inside. My husband couldn’t believe that a doctor would do such a thing. And when the radiologist said he would resume scanning a little while later, my husband told me to go and record the scanning process with my phone,” the complaint states.

The survivor reportedly then returned to the scanning room and kept her phone recording on a table before lying down for the scan.

She alleged that the radiologist again touched her inappropriately. When she questioned him, he allegedly threatened her, saying, “If you open your mouth about what happened here anywhere, I will kill you right here,” while also abusing her in “filthy language”.

The survivor’s family has alleged that the accused was called to the police station and later let go. Local residents have called for immediate action against the radiologist.
