State government has been hampering the Centre's initiatives to roll out development projects, the prime minister said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily on the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in Telangana, saying it has been thwarting the central government’s development programmes for the state.
Addressing a well-attended public meeting at Parade Ground in Secunderabad on Saturday, 8 April, Modi said the the BJP is determined to free Telangana from the clutches of dishonest and corrupt dynastic rule.
Though the barbs were targeted at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and his family, the prime minister did not take any names.
The prime minister was addressing the gathering after inaugurating or launching a slew of development programmes worth more than ₹11,000 crore.
Modi reminded KCR that all are equal before the law, apparently referring to the chief minister’s daughter and MLC K Kavitha, who has been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the multi-crore Delhi excise policy scam.
“They (those involved in corruption) went to the court to prevent the arm of law from reaching them but could not get much relief with the court delivering a shocker,” he said.
Visibly annoyed by KCR’s absence at the public meeting, the Prime Minister was emphatic that family rule in the state should be uprooted.
He said family rule was an embodiment of selfishness, creating a conducive environment for corruption to breed. Under family rule, priority would be on making money rather than investing in development projects that benefit the people.
“The family rule in Telangana is hampering the BJP’s efforts in developing the state. Whenever we want to invest in sunrise sectors, the family rule looks at the possibilities of profiting from them,” he alleged.
Modi appealed to the people to realise that they have lost heavily because of the greed of the family rule. “It is time that all of you join hands to pack off the present dispensation,” he said.
Drawing attention to the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, he said the BRS government did not like it because the dispensation had no control over it.
“The family rule is always like this. It wants to have a vice-like grip on the system so that it could continue to plunder the state,” the prime minister said.
Dynastic parties, be it in Telangana or all over India have the same way of working. They also weaken democratic methods and give a free run to corruption. Aspirations of youth suffer due to that. pic.twitter.com/Ov3g7be279

Referring to the Gandhis of the Congress, Modi recalled how the BJP had freed the country from family rule in 2014 and how it had helped the nation to prosper.
“After coming to power, we provided the country with a new direction. This motive for development was Ambedkar-mooted Samvidhan Sadbhava,” he said.
The prime minister said that though the Centre had lined up several important projects, they could not be implemented as the state government does not partner in their implementation.
The programmes meant for the welfare of the multitudes are being thwarted by a handful of people, he said, while vehemently denying the accusation that the Centre was not helping the state.
The prime minister said that if Telangana had developed to this extent, it was because of the BJP government at the Centre.
In the future too, it will be the BJP that would make Telangana live its dream of all-around development.
“Whenever the Centre takes up any scheme for the benefit of the people, surprisingly it pains the state government. The family rule, which is steeped in corruption, is scared of those who are honest and sincere in their work,” Modi said.
The prime minister said that priority has been accorded to the expansion of national highways in Telangana.
“We have taken up national highway projects in the state at a cost of ₹35,000 crore and decided to establish a mega textile park in Telangana. The modernisation project of Secunderabad railway station was part of the nationwide development mission undertaken by the central government,” he said.
Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw (Railways) and G Kishan Reddy (Tourism) also addressed the gathering. Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar was among those who received the prime minister at Begumpet airport.
