The death toll following the industrial blast in Pashamylaram — on the outskirts of Hyderabad — in the Sangareddy district in Telangana rose to 37 after more bodies were recovered from the collapsed building early on Tuesday, 1 July. Many of the victims were charred beyond recognition, prompting police to initiate DNA testing for identification.
Around 35 injured workers are currently undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals, among them 10 are in critical condition. Debris clearance operations are still underway, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) actively involved in the rescue and recovery efforts. The death toll is likely to rise as the officials are still removing the rubble.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will visit the Pashamylaram blast site at 10 am on Tuesday and will also meet the injured undergoing treatment in hospitals.
It was a reactor blast at the Sigachi Chemical Plant in Pashamylaram that triggered a massive fire on Monday, culminating in the collapse of a three-storey building.
Meanwhile, the chief minister appointed a high-power committee to investigate the blast. According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the five-member panel includes the Chief Secretary, Special Chief Secretary (Disaster Management), Principal Secretaries of Labour and Health, and the Additional DGP (Fire Services).
The committee will not only probe the causes of the mishap but also recommend measures to prevent similar industrial accidents in the future.
Revanth Reddy expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and directed officials to ensure that all injured workers receive prompt and adequate medical care. He also instructed teams to intensify rescue efforts in case any workers remain trapped at the site.
Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha had visited the blast site on Monday morning and stated that the government was committed to protecting and supporting every affected family. The minister later visited Dhruva Hospitals in Patancheru and Pranaam Hospital in Madinaguda, where several injured workers are being treated. He assured that the state government will bear the full cost of their medical treatment.
