Operation Sindoor

Synopsis: Lieutenant General Rajiv Gai said India is not concerned with Pakistan’s attempts to build up military reserves or procure foreign supplies. He was asked whether Pakistan’s call for a “ceasefire” might be a tactical move to buy time and procure military supplies from international allies.

Officials reassured the nation on Sunday, 11 May, that India’s armed forces remain fully prepared for any eventuality, including future provocations, despite Pakistan’s calls for a ceasefire in the wake of Operation Sindoor.

Lieutenant General Rajiv Gai, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), said India is not concerned with Pakistan’s attempts to build up military reserves or procure foreign supplies.

He was replying to a question about whether Pakistan could use the ceasefire period to procure additional military supplies, such as ammunition, from allies like China or Turkey.

‘Focused on its own operational goals’

The DGMO said India remains focused on its own operational goals and readiness.

“I’m not so concerned about what Pakistan will do in this time (while there is a ceasefire). I am only concerned about what we will do,” said Lt Gen Gai. “We have a road map, and we will follow it diligently and to the tee.”

He was asked whether Pakistan’s call for a “ceasefire” might be a tactical move to buy time and procure military supplies from international allies.

Lt Gen Gai responded by stressing that India’s primary concern is ensuring the safety and security of its citizens, rather than being distracted by what Pakistan might be doing during this time.

He acknowledged that Pakistan’s military could take steps to prepare for future actions, but he reaffirmed that the Indian Armed Forces are always on high alert, ready to respond decisively to any threats.

“We are always prepared to face any eventuality for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and safety of our citizens,” he said. “Whatever has to be done will be done.”

‘Operations are based on a clear and detailed plan’

The DGMO emphasised that India’s military operations are based on a clear and detailed plan, and any procurement efforts by Pakistan do not change India’s approach.

Referring to Pakistan’s violation of the ceasefire, immediately after an agreement was made, he made it clear that Pakistan’s actions will not go unanswered.

“There will be a response, and it will be fierce and punitive,” he said. “Why the Pakistan army chose to violate the understanding is a question best answered by their DGMO. But I can assure you that we remain prepared and vigilant.”

He also clarified that despite the ceasefire agreement, the Indian Armed Forces have been on a high state of alert and will continue to maintain this posture to protect national security.

“The armed forces continue to be in a very high state of readiness even as we speak,” Lt Gen Gai affirmed.

Meanwhile, the officials said that Indian forces are focused on counter-terrorism operations.

He explained India’s operational readiness.

“Our fight is with terrorism, not with Pakistan’s military establishment,” Lt Gen Gai concluded. “We have a clear road map and will follow it diligently.”
