The Telangana Congress will go to the Assembly elections in December this year with the slogan “Elect KCR if you want family rule, or elect the Congress if you want people’s rule”.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Party leader Rahul Gandhi, and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi discussed with about 15 important functionaries of the Telangana Congress’ strategy committee in Delhi different ways to address grey areas on Tuesday.
Rahul Gandhi is understood to have told the leaders to sink differences among themselves and work shoulder to shoulder so the Congress can return to power in the state.
In this connection, the top brass made it clear that under no circumstances would there be any truck with the BRS, and that the party would ensure that it would not be part of any Opposition alliance that might come up in to serve as an alternative to the Congress.
Rahul Gandhi told the delegates that if they had any problems, they should discuss them with TPCC president A Revanth Reddy or him.
He added that the animosities among the leaders should not be allowed to mar the image of the party.
He is also understood to have cleared the air on the allotment of tickets by saying that the final decision on this rested only with the party high command.
He also made it clear that, going forward, the Congress would take a tough line against indiscipline within the party.
Later, the Congress’ Telangana in charge Manikrao Thakre and Revanth Reddy told reporters that there was no tacit understanding between the Congress and the BRS, as the BJP was alleging.
Revanth Reddy said that this time the Congress would script its strategies very carefully to take on KCR’s BRS in the elections. “We will adopt some of the approaches that paid off in the Assembly elections in Karnataka,” he said.
The Congress leaders claimed that the people were now on the side of the party, and that they are aware that there was an invisible pact between the BRS and the BJP.
The two parties were trying to weaken the Congress, but it would not happen, they said.
The leaders also said that the Congress would expose the BRS before the people as to how it was spending public money like water on publicity.
There has been no change in the living standards of the people in the state after BRS took over nine years ago.
“KCR’s family has been looting the state and we will explain how they were doing it by making door-to-door visits to the people,” they said.
Those who were present in the strategy meeting included MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy, former ministers K Jana Reddy and Shabbir Ali, and former MP Madhu Yashki.
