Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said on Saturday, 20 April, that his government was committed to paying ₹500 as a bonus for each quintal of paddy procured from farmers from the next agriculture crop.

He addressed a street-corner meeting after Congress candidate Neelam Madhu filed his nomination for the Medak Lok Sabha seat.

In a fresh offensive against opposition BRS, the chief minister said that the pink party supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao was making irresponsible comments about Congress as he was green with envy over Congress’s coming to power in the state.

The chief minister reiterated that he would waive the crop loans of farmers up to Rs.2 lakh at one go before Independence Day and that the BRS need not worry too much about it.

Congress did everything for Medak

He reminded the people that the Congress always stood by them, not any other party. “Neither the BRS nor the BJP had done anything for Medak, though they were in power for ten years at the centre and in the state,” he said.

Taking a swipe at former finance minister and BRS leader T Harish Rao for repeatedly asking the Congress when it would waive crop loans of up to ₹2 lakh, Revanth Reddy said that the former was making the demand repeatedly as he was getting restive over the Congress implementing all its poll promises one after the other.

The chief minister said that the industries flourishing in Medak were those set up during the term of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. “Not much happened in the district since BJP or BRS MPs represented the constituency between 1999 and 2024,” he said.

He questioned M Raghunandan Rao, the BJP candidate for Medak, about what kind of development took place in Dubbak, which he had represented in the last Assembly so that people would trust him that he would get funds from the centre if he got elected to the Lok Sabha.

Modi wants to topple my govt

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and KCR were trying to topple his government, unable to bear the sight that the Congress was rising to women’s expectations in delivering on its poll promises. “We are providing LPG cylinders at ₹500 each and have allotted ₹22,500 crore for financing ₹5 lakh to each beneficiary for the construction of Indiramma Houses,” he said.

The chief minister stressed that though BRS did nothing during its ten-year rule, it wanted the Congress government to step down merely three months after coming to power. “Mark my words, the Congress will be in the saddle firmly for ten years and would deliver benefits of welfare schemes to the poor and the needy,” he said.

He lashed out at BRS candidate P Venkataram Reddy for forcibly snatching lands from the locals for Mallanna Sagar and Ranganayaka Sagar projects when he was the collector of the Siddipet district in the past. “Both Narendra Modi and KCR are hand in glove in acting against the interests of the people. “They were planning to derail the Indiramma Housing scheme under which the Congress wanted to build 4.5 lakh houses. In last December, we sent KCR home, and in May, let us send Modi home,” he said.

He appealed to the people to support Congress nominee Neelam Madhu just as they had supported the Congress whenever it was going through a rough patch in the past. “You had elected Indira Gandhi to Lok Sabha from here in the past,” he recalled, and he sought similar support for Madhu now.
