AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday, 19 November, described the political posturing of the BRS, the AIMIM and the BJP, as the “Natu Natu” dance.

She appealed to the people of Telangana to watch and enjoy their gyrations but not vote for them under any circumstances.

The Congress leader, addressing an election rally at Asifabad, said that the BRS and the BJP were always together, each helping the other out.

They also had another “bhai” in AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, who helped the BRS win elections in Telangana and the BJP elsewhere in India, she claimed.

She said that the game plan of the three parties was easy to understand.

“The AIMIM does not contest in Telangana except in nine Assembly seats because he (Owaisi) wants the BRS to come to power. The same AIMIM contests in quite a number of seats sometimes even up to 40 in other states when elections take place to ensure the victory of the BJP at the expense of the Congress,” Priyanka said.

‘BRS always backs BJP’

The BRS, whenever the BJP needed its support in Parliament for its controversial bills, readily backed the saffron party and, as if in a quid pro quo gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not take any action against KCR though corruption of monumental proportions took place in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation and other projects, said Priyanka.

“The pattern makes it easy for anyone to understand how these parties have been supporting each other,” she said and cautioned the people that if one votes for the BRS, it would go to the BJP and if one votes for the BJP, it would go to the BRS,” she said.

The Congress general secretary raised the touchy issue of unemployment and asked the youth whether their dreams of landing a good job had come true.

“Are your dreams fulfilled in the last 10 years of BRS’ dispensation?” she asked.

Questions unemployment rate

She dwelt at length on how the youths had suffered when the question papers for the competitive examinations conducted by the TSPSC for filling jobs in the government, had leaked.

“I am sure the youths would have undergone a traumatic experience. Preparing for examinations takes a toll on the students psychologically. They come under tremendous stress. I know it personally as I have two children who keep preparing for examinations,” she said.

Priyanka Gandhi asked the parents whether they still believed that their children would have a future under the present dispensation.

“The unemployment rate in Telangana is quite high. But in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, the issue has been addressed. If you elect the Congress to power in Telangana, we will fill two lakh posts immediately,” she said.

She added that 2 lakh posts had already been filled in Rajasthan, and the process was on for the recruitment of another 1 lakh youths.

Assures employment for youth

“The Congress after coming to power in Telangana would come out with a job calendar for the students to know each year, how many jobs are being filled and when.

Priyanka tapped into Indira Gandhi’s legacy to connect with the voters by recalling that the late former prime minister was an MP from Telangana when she was assassinated in 1984.

The Congress leader also tried to take a trip down memory lane when Indira Gandhi had distributed seven lakh acres of land to the people and set up ITDAs for the welfare of tribals.

She said: “Indira Gandhi used to keep the interests of the people of Telangana in her mind always. That was the reason why she brought forth the Forest Act for Tribals. Similarly, my mother Sonia Gandhi had honoured the sentiment of the people of Telangana and created a separate state for them,” Priyanka said and promised that employment would be provided to one member of each family who lost their dear ones to the Telangana movement.

‘People’s money should not be misappropriated’

Priyanka said that Congress always believed that the people’s money should not be misappropriated. The money that belongs to the people should go back to the people.

“In Telangana, thousands of crores of rupees had been misappropriated,” she said and took a swipe at the BJP for not taking action against the BRS government.

“The Union government has several probe agencies at its disposal but they are used to hound and harass the Congress leaders but not those in the BRS government,” she said.

She also asserted that the money that had been siphoned off in the scams belonged to the people, which the Congress intended to return to the people in the form of welfare measures.
