Rahul Gandhi accused the Chief Election Commissioner of aiding the 'murderers of democracy'.
Synopsis: The Congress held a protest in the national capital of Delhi against the alleged vote chori and the perceived irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll in several states. Rahul Gandhi has been alleging that the Election Commission of India has colluded with the BJP to enact a massive voter fraud to swing election results in favour of the saffron party.
The Congress held a protest in the national capital of Delhi on Sunday, 14 December, against the alleged vote chori (vote theft) and the perceived irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in several states.
Led by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, the protest in Ram Leela Maidan was attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders and thousands of party cadres.
The protest comes days after a fiery debate in the Lok Sabha, during which the government and the Opposition clashed over the SIR and “vote chori” allegations.
Priyanka Gandhi said the BJP is using the Election Commission (EC) to win the election. She added that the saffron party made all government institutions “bend before it”.
Rahul Gandhi said the Congress is fighting with truth against the falsehoods of the BJP-RSS.
“Gandhiji used to say that truth is the most important thing. You must have heard the words Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram, and also Satyamev Jayate. Mohan Bhagwat has said that the world listens to power, not truth. This is the ideology of the RSS. Congress believes in the power of truth, but the RSS believes that truth has no value. This, therefore, is a battle between truth and falsehood,” he said.
“I want to stand firm behind the truth and remove Modi, Amit Shah, and the BJP from power. They have committed irregularities. During the elections in Bihar, they distributed ₹10,000 to women to influence voters. Gyanesh Kumar, Sukhvinder Singh, and Vivek Joshi, the Election Commissioners, colluded with the BJP during the elections.”
“Narendra Modi changed the laws governing the Election Commissioners. The new law says that no action can be taken against them, whatever they do. But Congress wants to make it clear that they are Election Commissioners of India, not of the BJP or Modi. We will remove this legal immunity and take retrospective action against those who have done wrong,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi also noted the inaction of the Election Commission regarding his earlier allegations.
“They stole the election from the people of Haryana. A Brazilian woman’s photo appeared in the electoral roll. There were lakhs of duplicate votes. People from Uttar Pradesh voted in Haryana. We raised these issues, but the Election Commissioners did not respond,” he said.
“I challenged Amit Shah to debate me in the Parliament regarding my press conferences. I asked him to prove who is speaking the truth. The people of India know the truth, and they will fight for it. People have even given their lives for the truth,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi claimed that people in this country know that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah use vote chori to win elections.
“We have demonstrated this in Karnataka and Maharashtra. Even when we presented proof, the Election Commission did not respond. It may take time, but truth will triumph in India. We will use truth and non-violence to defeat Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. They know that their vote chori has been exposed and that they will be washed out of power. This is an attack on the Constitution of Ambedkar. They have failed in all aspects of governance because they are engaged in vote chori. Otherwise, the people could expel them in five minutes,” he added.
The rally was announced on 18 November, days after the Congress faced a major setback in the Bihar Assembly elections, after a meeting of the party high command with leaders from the 12 states and UTs where the SIR of electoral rolls is underway.
Congress General Secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said the party was going to hit the streets and “expose” the Election Commission’s “campaign to destroy democracy in the country”.
“If there is anyone who is the biggest sinner in the eyes of the country’s public, then it is Gyanesh Kumar (Chief Election Commissioner). On Narendra Modi’s signal, Gyanesh Kumar is carrying out ‘vote theft’ in the country. The country’s Election Commission has now turned into the ‘Modi Commission’. The public has been deceived because their rights are being stolen,” said Congress in a social media post.
“The RSS founders had tried to take away the right to vote from Dalits, Adivasis, minorities and the poor. But it was the fight of Mahatma Gandhi, Ambedkar and others who earned them their right. Now the BJP, with the same ideology, is trying to take away the votes,” said Revanth Reddy.
“The BJP wanted 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, but they got only 240 seats. Now, in the name of SIR, they are trying to take away the votes of Dalits, Adivasis, minorities and the poor. This is not the fight of the Congress or Rahul Gandhi, but for the people whose votes are being taken away. They have taken away the votes of the marginalised, in future, they will take away their Aadhar cards, their citizenships and all their rights. The people of Telangana will fight alongside Rahul Gandhi against this injustice,” he added.
“For democracy to be protected, for constitutional values to continue, elections must be conducted fairly. But the BJP government at the Centre is keeping the EC in its pocket and engaging in vote theft. On this, Rahul Gandhi is fighting across the country. Today, a rally is taking place in Delhi with signatures collected nationwide against vote theft. We are all participating in this rally. The Congress Party is always at the forefront to protect democracy,” said Ponnam Prabhakar, Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Department Minister.
Rahul Gandhi has been alleging that the Election Commission of India has colluded with the BJP to enact a massive voter fraud to swing election results in favour of the saffron party.
In different press conferences, he used ECI data to expose issues with the electoral rolls, even in Bihar, where the SIR was completed ahead of the Assembly polls. The issues included duplicate voters, multiple voters with the same addresses, the same photograph for different voters, etc.
