Synopsis: Andhra Pradesh Police’s Counter Intelligence Cell has arrested an Indian Navy sailor named Pradeep Mukherjee in Coimbatore on 3 October in a case of alleged espionage. Mukherjee, 31, who is posted under the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, is suspected of passing sensitive Navy information to an enemy country after allegedly falling victim to a honey trap operated by a Pakistani woman.
A special team of the Counter Intelligence (CI) Cell of the Andhra Pradesh Police arrested an Indian Navy sailor in Coimbatore on Saturday, 3 October, in a case of alleged espionage.
Pradeep Mukherjee, 31, a native of West Bengal, was arrested at INS Agrani, the Indian Navy’s leadership training establishment in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He is currently posted as a sailor under the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in Visakhapatnam.
Intelligence sources said Mukherjee is suspected of passing sensitive information related to the Navy to an enemy country. He had allegedly fallen victim to a honey trap operated by a Pakistani woman and had passed sensitive information to her.

The arrest followed a three-day surveillance operation by the Vijayawada Counter Intelligence Unit, based out of Chennai, to monitor Mukherjee’s movements.
Official details are expected to be disclosed after the inquiry is completed. The case could be handed over to the National Investigation Agency after the preliminary investigation.
