30 Day countdown begins for Hyderabad Formula E race, also known as Hyderabad E Prix, at the Gateway of India in Mumbai.

A ‘30 days to go countdown’ curtain-raiser event ahead of the first-ever Formula E race in Hyderabad on 11 February has kicked off in Mumbai with Telangana IT and Urban Affairs Minister KT Rama Rao in attendance.

The event was marked by the unveiling of a Generation 3 car, which has a top speed of 322 km per hour, at the historic Gateway of India.

Formula E Prix motorsport championship is exclusively for electric cars running on EV technology, of which the Indian auto market has seen a massive influx lately.

At the event, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde proposed the race be held on the Mumbai-Nagpur highway, officially known as Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi highway, next time.

As per reports, the Formula E Prix is in a four-year agreement that will see Hyderabad hosting it till 2026.

“Before the Forumula E race in Hyderabad, we wanted to have a promotional event in a major Indian city, so Mumbai was chosen,” B Ramulu, spokesperson of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), told South First.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad E-Prix will be the fourth round of the ninth season of the Formula E championship. A total of 11 teams with 22 cars will participate in the Hyderabad Formula E race at India’s first street circuit.

On 4 January, the sales for the 22,500 tickets for the Hyderabad Formula E event went live.

Noting that Formula E promotes a sustainable environment, the BRS leader added that sustainable mobility is the way to go for a cleaner, greener future.

The event also saw a performance by the Dharavi Rocks, a music band of underprivileged children from Dharavi, which is considered to be one of the largest slums in the world.
