Vadakara MDMA case's second accused stabbed
A woman accused in the Vadakara MDMA case was allegedly attacked by her partner outside the police station on Saturday morning, shortly after she arrived to fulfil a bail condition.
The woman attacked was 30-year-old KC Keerthana, the second accused in the case. She had been working as a specialist teacher at the Perambra Block Resource Centre on a contract basis before she was dismissed.
Two more teachers, K Kavya of Koorachund and VP Neeshma of Avala, had also been arrested after investigators allegedly found that their bank accounts had been used to transfer money linked to the drug network.
Police had said all three teachers contacted the drug syndicate through Instagram and had stated that they turned to MDMA trafficking as a means of making quick money.
Keerthana had arrived at the station to comply with a bail condition requiring her to sign the station register.
According to police, Vineesh, who was waiting nearby, got into an argument with her before allegedly attacking her.
Police personnel intervened after hearing the commotion and took Vineesh into custody.
Keerthana was first admitted to Vadakara Taluk Hospital and later shifted to Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, as her injuries were considered serious.
The case came to light following the arrest of Safwan, the first accused, from Vadakara.
Another accused, Jijin Kuriakose of Iritty, was also arrested in connection with the alleged drug network.
The Kerala High Court had earlier granted Keerthana bail subject to conditions, including reporting to the investigating officer.
Chief Minister VD Satheesan had earlier described the arrest of the three teachers as “shocking”, saying it reflected how deeply the drug mafia had infiltrated society.
“It shows how far the tentacles of the drug mafia have spread into society. It is because of Operation Toofan that these links are being unearthed and those involved are being arrested. The investigation is still in progress,” he had said.
