The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in five districts of Keralam for October 25 and 26, as a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea and a developing cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal are likely to intensify rainfall across the state.
Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad are under a red alert on October 25, while Idukki and Palakkad have been placed under a red alert on October 26. Extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm in 24 hours is likely at isolated places in these districts.

On October 26, the alert will cover Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Malappuram. A low-pressure area over the southeastern Arabian Sea and the adjoining Lakshadweep region is contributing to the weather system. The trough extending from the associated cyclonic circulation passes through Keralam and reaches the coast of northern Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, a well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression on October 24 and move west-northwestward. It is expected to strengthen into a deep depression by October 25 and develop into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 26. The system is likely to intensify further and move toward the central-western Bay of Bengal, near the Andhra Pradesh coast, by the morning of October 28.
The IMD has warned that extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Keralam on October 25 and 26. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds of 30–40 km/h is also possible at isolated places from October 24 to 27.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a warning regarding the possibility of Kallakkadal, or swell surge, along the Keralam coast.
High waves measuring 0.8 to 1.2 metres are likely along the Thiruvananthapuram coast, from Kappil to Pozhiyoor, until 11:30 PM on October 25.
A similar warning has been issued for the Kanyakumari coast, where waves reaching 1.0 to 1.2 metres are possible until 11:30 PM on October 24. Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to exercise caution due to the possibility of high waves and sea surges.
