Synopsis: Transwoman, activist Raga Ranjini accused CPI(M) leader Dr. P Sarin of inappropriate behavior during a political event, later deleting her post due to family pressure but standing by her claims. Sarin’s wife, Dr. Soumya Sarin, defended him, questioned the timing of the allegation, and urged Ranjini to file a formal complaint instead of posting on social media.

A controversy has erupted after transwoman and activist Raga Ranjini alleged an unpleasant experience with CPI(M) leader Dr P Sarin during a political programme.

Ranjini claimed the incident took place in Kasaragod during the Samaragni yatra, alleging that Sarin insisted she stay overnight, which she declined.

She initially shared her account on Facebook but later deleted the post, citing family pressure. However, she maintained that the matter reflected the larger difficulties faced while speaking out against harassment.

Responding to the allegation, Sarin’s wife Dr Soumya Sarin defended him in a Facebook post on Wednesday, 3 September.

She questioned the timing of Ranjini’s revelation, asking why she had remained silent when Sarin changed parties or when he had publicly criticised a youth leader accused of sexual harassment.

Soumya also alleged that the post was linked to her own recent defence of her husband, which had drawn media attention.

Urging Ranjini to approach the police instead of social media, Soumya assured support if a formal complaint was filed.

She also accused the activist of inconsistency, pointing out her past support for another leader accused of abuse.
