In a significant political development, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) Kerala Coordinator PV Anvar participated in the UDF’s Malayora Samara Yatra in Edakkara of the Malappuram district on Thursday, 30 January.
The two-time Nilambur MLA received a warm welcome from Opposition Leader in the Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders.
Anvar has already outlined his vision for the TMC in Kerala, which includes working alongside the UDF. However, he had hinted at taking up issues of minorities and creating a platform for those dissatisfied with the Congress, CPI(M) and BJP.
The current development has made the TMC’s entry to the Congress-led UDF in Kerala a bit closer. He had declared unconditional support for the UDF in the Nilambur by-election.
Addressing the gathering, Anvar strongly criticised the Kerala government on multiple issues, including the increasing incidents of wild animal attacks in the high-range areas of the state, especially Wayanad.
His remarks came amidst growing concerns over human-wildlife conflict in the region, which has sparked protests in several affected areas.
Anvar resigned from the Kerala Assembly as Nilambur MLA on 13 January, joined the TMC under the guidance of party chairperson Mamata Banerjee.
Anvar, a two-time MLA elected with CPI(M) support, announced his decision to quit electoral politics for now but promised a relentless campaign against Pinarayi Vijayan, what he termed “Pinarayism,” signalling a shift in his political allegiance and agenda.
Anvar formally submitted his resignation to Speaker AN Shamseer, marking the end of his stint as an independent MLA.
Anvar as its state convener, the party has set out on a bold and ambitious mission to carve out a space in this highly competitive arena.
Meanwhile, Anvar sent a 10-page letter to Satheesan, Congress state President K Sudhakaran, and Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, proposing the inclusion of TMC in the UDF.
The letter explains his reasons for resigning as an MLA and joining the TMC, highlighting the political advantages of the move. Anvar has also reached out to leaders of all UDF constituent parties.
