Synopsis: The Special Investigation Team probing the sexual harassment case against Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith is expected to file its chargesheet within two days after obtaining approval from senior officials. The case is based on a complaint by a young female actor, who alleged that he entered a caravan without permission and attempted to kiss her during a film shoot.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the sexual harassment case against Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith is expected to submit its chargesheet within the next two days after obtaining approval from senior officials. The SIT is headed by the Kochi Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The case stems from a complaint filed by a young female actor, who alleged that Ranjith behaved inappropriately inside a caravan during a film shoot in Fort Kochi on January 30.
In her complaint to the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Kochi Central Police, the actor alleged that the director entered the caravan without permission and attempted to kiss her. She said he backed away after she objected.
Ranjith was arrested on March 31 after his vehicle was intercepted near Muttam on the Thodupuzha–Puliyanmala route. He was remanded to judicial custody and later granted bail.
As part of the investigation, officials questioned members of the film crew as well as individuals associated with the internal complaints committee.
The investigation is now in its final stages, and the SIT is expected to file the chargesheet after receiving the necessary approval from senior officers.
