Over 39,000 OP visits in three days as fever cases spike across Kerala

Health Department data show that 1,93,262 fever cases have been reported across Kerala so far this month.

Synopsis: This monsoon is seeing a sharp spike in fever-related illnesses across Kerala. Health officials have issued an advisory.

Kerala is witnessing a sharp rise in fever-related illnesses, with government hospitals across the state reporting a significant increase in patient numbers over the past three days.

Health authorities are also closely monitoring a rise in dengue and leptospirosis cases this monsoon season.

According to official figures, government hospitals treated a total of 39,236 outpatients between June 16 and June 18.

Daily outpatient attendance stood at 13,196 on June 16, 12,191 on June 17, and 13,849 on June 18.

During the same period, 427 fever cases were admitted. The number of patients admitted with fever rose from 143 on June 16 to 113 on June 17, before climbing sharply to 171 on June 18.

Dengue cases have also shown an upward trend, with 225 confirmed cases reported in the last three days. The state recorded 52 cases on June 16, followed by a spike to 105 cases on June 17, while 68 cases were reported on June 18.

Leptospirosis, another disease commonly associated with the monsoon season, is also on the rise. A total of 46 cases were reported during the three days, including 11 cases on June 16, 19 on June 17, and 16 on June 18.

Health Department data show that 1,93,262 fever cases have been reported across Kerala so far this month, with two deaths attributed to fever-related illnesses. The state has also recorded 1,097 dengue cases and four deaths, while 165 leptospirosis cases and two deaths have been reported during the same period.

Health officials have urged the public to remain vigilant, eliminate mosquito breeding sources, maintain personal hygiene, and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms such as persistent fever, body pain, or fatigue develop.

Authorities said they are continuing intensified surveillance and preventive measures across districts as the monsoon progresses.
