The Kerala Awards, the highest award given by the state government on the model of the Padma Awards for distinguished individuals who have made comprehensive contributions to society in various fields, for 2024 have been announced.
The Kerala Jyothi Award will be awarded to teacher and writer MK Sanu, announced the state government on Thursday, 31 October.
Established in 2021, the Kerala Awards are given in three categories; Kerala Jyothi (one person), Kerala Prabha (maximum of three people), and Kerala Sree (maximum of six people).
This year, the state government has decided to bestow the Kerala Prabha Award to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S Somnath for his notable contributions to the Science and Engineering sector and Bhuvaneshwari for her work in the field of agriculture.
Indian national cricket team’s wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Viswanath Samson has been awarded the Kerala Sree Award along with Kalamandalam Vimala Menon (Art), Dr TK Jayakumar (Health), Narayana Bhattathiri (Calligraphy), Shyja Baby (Social Service, ASHA Worker) and VK Mathews (Industry-Commerce).
The award selection process involved three levels of scrutiny. The recommendations by a secondary committee were reviewed by a panel consisting of Adoor Gopalakrishnan, K Jayakumar, and B Ekbal who later sent it to the state government.

Notable winners of the awards include MT Vasudevan Nair, Mammootty, Dr VP Gangadharan, T Padmanabhan, Justice (Retired) Fathima Beevi, Kanayi Kunhiraman and others.
