London police arrest Kerala man for killing fellow Malayali, 3rd Indian-origin person stabbed in 4 days

In yet another horrific tragedy, a 38-year-old man from Kerala was stabbed to death on Friday, 16 June in South London, three days after a 27-year-old woman from Telangana met the same fate in the country.

The victim, Aravind Sasikumar, was a native of Panampilly Nagar in the Kadavanthra region of Kochi.

London’s Metropolitan Police on 17 June charged his 25-year-old compatriot and flatmate, Salman Salim with murder. He was arrested from residential property in Southampton Way for killing Sasikumar.

This is the third killing of a person of Indian origin in a knife attack in the United Kingdom in the past four days.

Killed by fellow Kerala man

Sasikumar had been reportedly living in the UK for the last 10 years, having arrived on a student visa.

He was sharing an apartment with the accused Salim in Southampton Way of Camberwell, an area in South London.

Salim is also a native of Kerala. The duo shared community facilities with three other Malayalis.

The Met Police said that they were called at 1.30 am on Friday after Sasikumar was found with knife injuries outside a residential property in Southampton Way.

He died on the spot and a post-mortem examination later on Friday confirmed that he died of stab wounds to the chest, the Met police said.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, local policing commander in Southwark and Lambeth, said, “This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts are with the man’s family as they come to terms with this awful news. We will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

The cops informed the family of Sasikumar, who are being supported by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

Salim appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody. He will appear at the Old Bailey on 20 June. The Southwark police have charged Salim with murder.

Meanwhile, Camberwell and Peckham MP Harriet Harman described the death as a “horrific murder” and passed on her “deepest sympathy to [the] bereaved family”, in a message posted on social media.

Before Saiskumar, Kontham Tejaswini Reddy of Hyderabad in Telangana was stabbed to death on 13 June by a Brazilian national Keven Antonio Lourenco De Morai (23).

The accused also stabbed her friend Akhila, 28 — said to be from Alair in Yadadri Bhuvangiri district. The Met police was later announced that Akhila was out of danger.

Two other people were also arrested in connection with this investigation but were released without any action.

Earlier this week, Irish-Indian student Grace O’Malley Kumar (19) was murdered on 13 June in a horrific knife attack in Nottingham that claimed three lives.

On 6 May, another woman from Hyderabad, Aishwarya Thatikonda (26), was among nine people killed when a gunman opened fire outside the crowded Allen Premium Outlets mall in the state of Texas in the US.
