London MET police arrests two people, including Brazilian flat mate for murdering Hyderabad girl

London’s Metropolitan Police on Tuesday, 13 June, arrested a Brazilian national in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old woman from Telangana.

The victim, Kontham Tejaswini Reddy of Turkayamjal in Abdullapurmet mandal of the Rangareddy district, and her friend Akhila, 28 — said to be from Alair in Yadadri Bhuvangiri district — were stabbed on Tuesday.

The Met Police released pictures of the suspect, Brazilian national Keven Antonio Lourenco De Morais, seeking help from the public to trace him.

“It can be assumed it’s him (Keven Antonio), as it was his picture in the appeal we had put out on social media,” a Press Bureau Officer of the Met Police told South First.

While Reddy died on the spot, Akhila was taken to a hospital with stab injuries “that were later assessed as not life-threatening”, the Met Police said.

Tejaswini Reddy had reportedly gone to London in March 2022 to pursue a postgraduate degree from the University of Greenwich.

The accused, Keven Antonio, reportedly moved into the shared accommodation — Tejaswini was already living with her friends there — less than a week ago.

The police said that they responded to a call around 10 am local time on Tuesday about a stabbing at a residential property in the Neeld Crescent in Wembley.

“Despite the efforts of the emergency services, a 27-year-old woman sadly died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed,” the Met Police said.

The accused was arrested from Harrow town in Greater London, the police said.

Two detained, one released

The police initially arrested two accused — a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman — from the crime scene on suspicion of murder.

“The man remains in custody. The woman has been released without further action,” the Met Police said.

“The case is still at a very early stage. The Wembley Police are still establishing the motive and modus operandi,” the Press Bureau Officer said.

“This has been a fast-moving investigation and I would like to thank the public for sharing our appeal for information about this man. He is now in custody,” said Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

“I recognise the significant concern this incident has caused in the community and I would like to reassure the public that a dedicated team of detectives are working to establish what happened,” she added.

On 6 May, another woman from Hyderabad, Aishwarya Thatikonda (26), was among nine people killed when a gunman opened fire outside the crowded Allen Premium Outlets mall in the state of Texas in the US.
