Kesari College.
Kesari College in North Paravoor in the Ernakulam district of Kerala officially started functioning as a government institution on Tuesday, 1 July, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the local community. Now renamed Kesari Government Arts and Science College and affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, the college begins its academic year with 70 students from 12 districts.
Admissions are ongoing for the remaining 85 seats across BCom, BSc Cyber Forensics, and BA Journalism and Mass Communication programmes.
The Kerala government took over the college from the Kesari Memorial Trust, which handed over 1.60 acres of land and infrastructure worth ₹16 crore free of cost. Dr Joby Varghese will continue as principal, with faculty being appointed from surplus teachers in the Department of Collegiate Education.
Currently, the college has nine permanent teachers, five non-teaching staff, and eight guest lecturers. Some female students are staying at a nearby Block Panchayat hostel. The government has announced development projects worth ₹100 crore for the institution over the next four years.
