In memory of Kerala’s veteran writer MT Vasudevan Nair, the Kerala Sahitya Akademi has decided to name its main hall after the literary icon. The announcement was made by Akademi President K Satchidanandan during the declaration of this year’s Sahitya Akademi Awards on Thursday, 26 June.
The official naming ceremony is scheduled for 17 August, coinciding with the inauguration of the Akademi’s upcoming International Literary Festival.
This year’s festival will span five days and will be conducted across three venues.
Financial limitations have led to a downsizing of the event, with the number of venues reduced from four to three and several programmes trimmed to fit the budget. The total expenditure for the festival is estimated at ₹64 lakh.
Apart from the grant provided by the state government, the Akademi will also tap into its own funds to cover the costs. The event is expected to witness the participation of around 20 renowned authors from across the country.
