Synopsis: The Kerala Police filed a charge sheet against Malayalam rapper Vedan for sexually abusing a young doctor under the pretext of marriage. The charge sheet cites evidence supporting the allegation.

The Kerala Police filed a charge sheet against Malayalam rapper Hirandas Murali, popularly known as Vedan, for sexually abusing a young doctor under the pretext of marriage. The charge sheet filed at the Kakkanad Judicial Magistrate Court in the Ernakulam district cites evidence supporting the allegation.

Vedan did not deny his relationship with the woman but claimed he had not promised to marry her, a statement included in the charge sheet.

Police, however, maintain that this does not affect the rape charge. A case has been registered against him under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), covering abuse from 2021 to 2023.

Charge sheet confirms evidence

The charge sheet, based on the victim’s consistent statement, confirms sufficient evidence to prosecute Vedan. It will now be forwarded to the sessions court for trial.

Recently, the Tripunithura police also filed a separate charge sheet against him in a ganja case.

The complaint, lodged in late July, alleged that Vedan raped the Kozhikode-based doctor multiple times between 2021 and 2023 under the pretext of a false promise of marriage.

The complainant, a native of Kottayam, alleged that Vedan exploited her for two years under the false promise of marriage after they connected on social media in 2019. She accused him of forcing sexual relations, taking money from her, and later distancing himself while pursuing other women.

In her statement, the woman further said that Vedan had borrowed a total of ₹31,000 from her between 2021 and 2023. This included ₹10,000 allegedly requested in December 2021 to fund the release of a song, an additional ₹5,000 at a later stage, and ₹8,356 spent on train tickets for the rapper. She has submitted digital payment records, including Google Pay transactions, as evidence.

The complainant said Vedan began distancing himself from her around July 2023, stopped taking her calls, and eventually cut off contact entirely. She claimed this abrupt withdrawal pushed her into depression. According to her, Vedan referred to her as “toxic” before ending the relationship.

Financial transaction records were also handed to the police.
