The 14-year-old from Karumaloor near Kochi passed away on Tuesday, 7 November.

This is a gruesome story of a teenage girl in Kerala who died because her father did not like her falling in love and made her drink a poisonous pesticide.

The 14-year-old from Karumaloor near Kochi passed away on Tuesday, 7 November, unable to recover from the damage to her internal organs.

The heart-wrenching episode unfolded on 29 October when things came to a head between the father and daughter. The 46-year-old P Abees was opposed to her inter-religious relationship.

He asked her to end the relationship. When she refused, he confiscated her phone. But she found another phone to continue the relationship.

The mother’s tale

Her mother said he then beat her up, even using iron rods. Though physically abused, the girl did not relent. Finally, the father forced the girl to drink the deadly chemical concoction.

The girl was subsequently hospitalised. She fought for her life, but in vain. She breathed her last on Tuesday, a day after a magistrate recorded her statement.

The father has been arrested. The police are questioning him.

Initially, he said the daughter attempted to end her life by consuming the pesticide and that he intervened and forcibly took the bottle away from her.

But the mother gave the story away in her statement to the police. She clearly stated that it was her husband who forced the poison down their daughter’s throat.

The investigation continues. The formal autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
