Synopsis: As per the victim’s statement, the accused reportedly forced open the door, entered the room, and sexually assaulted her. It’s said the woman woke up in shock and raised an alarm, prompting the accused to flee the scene.
In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman working in the IT sector at Kazhakootam, Thiruvananthapuram, was allegedly sexually assaulted after an unidentified man broke into her hostel room in, in the early hours of Thursday, 17 October.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 2 am when the woman was asleep in her room.
As per the victim’s statement, the accused reportedly forced open the door, entered the room, and sexually assaulted her.
It’s said the woman woke up in shock and raised an alarm, prompting the accused to flee the scene.
The hostel authorities were informed in the morning, after which the woman lodged a complaint with the Kazhakoottam police.
A case has been registered, and an investigation has been launched. The woman told the police that she does not know the accused and was unable to identify him.
The police conducted a medical examination of the survivor and recorded her statement.
A special investigation team has been constituted to trace and nab the accused. The investigation is being led by the Kazhakoottam Assistant Commissioner.
Police said they are examining CCTV footage from the area and have intensified patrolling in and around the locality. The survivor was staying alone in the hostel room at the time of the incident.
