Synopsis: A 36-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her husband in front of their four children in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. The accused fled the scene after allegedly slitting the throat of his wife.
A 36-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her husband in front of their four children at a rented house in Nalanchira in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala in the early hours of Wednesday, 3 June, sending shockwaves through the locality.
The accused, identified as Suresh (46), an electrician and native of Vattiyoorkavu, fled the scene after allegedly slitting the throat of his wife, Haseena Beevi, a native of Mannanthala.
The incident occurred around 5 am at the house where the family had been living on rent for the past four months. According to police, the couple had been facing serious marital issues for a long time, allegedly stemming from suspicion and frequent domestic disputes.
Investigators said an argument broke out between the couple again on Wednesday morning. As the confrontation escalated, Suresh allegedly attacked Haseena with a knife and slit her throat.
Police sources said he later took the weapon to the washroom, washed it, and then escaped in a car.
The horrifying crime unfolded in the presence of the couple’s four children. The family’s eldest daughter reportedly alerted the Mannanthala Police Station, following which police rushed to the scene.
The tragedy comes barely a day after the couple had been involved in another serious dispute. Haseena had reportedly approached the police with a complaint on Tuesday.
Police said they intervened in the matter and counselled both sides before sending them back home. However, the conflict resurfaced within hours and ended in a fatal attack.
Police said the family had shifted to the rented house in Nalanchira about four months ago and had maintained little contact with neighbours or locals.
Investigators are also looking into reports that Haseena had gone missing for a few days recently and returned home last week. Since her return, frequent quarrels had reportedly broken out between the couple.
The body was found in a bedroom on the upper floor of the house. After completing inquest procedures, police shifted the body to the mortuary of Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The four children, who witnessed the murder and its aftermath, have been placed under police protection. Relatives and residents gathered at the house after news of the incident spread.
A manhunt has been launched to trace Suresh, who remains absconding.
Police believe the murder was the culmination of a prolonged family dispute and are continuing their investigation.
