Child Helpline 1098 rebranded to encourage direct calls from children
The State Department of Women and Child Development has rebranded the Child Helpline 1098 to ensure children themselves feel empowered to call for help when in distress.
Health and Women and Child Development Minister Veena George unveiled the new logo, emphasising the importance of creating awareness so children feel safe to reach out directly.
Since the department took over the helpline in August 2023, it has received over 4.86 lakh calls and intervened in 32,330 cases, ensuring timely aid.
However, most calls came from adults, not children. The rebranding aims to change that trend.
The 1098 helpline operates round-the-clock with a state-level control room in Thiruvananthapuram and district-level units.
Help desks are also active at major railway stations in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kozhikode.
Emergency calls are escalated to 112 when required, ensuring swift action and child safety.
