Synopsis: A native of Kozhikode in Kerala, who had arrived in Nilambur with Akhila Bharat Hindu Mahasabha State President Himaval Bhadrananda, died after falling from the third floor of a lodge. Police said that further details would be shared after the initial phase of the probe.
A BBA student, native of Kozhikode in Kerala who had arrived in Nilambur on 20 June with Akhila Bharat Hindu Mahasabha State President Himaval Bhadrananda, died after falling from the third floor of a lodge on Sunday, sources said on Tuesday, 24 June.
Ajay Kumar (26), a BBA student in Mysuru and a resident of Perambra, had arrived in town with Bhadrananda and a group of friends in connection with the recently concluded Nilambur by-poll.
According to police, CCTV footage showed Ajay being taken into Bhadrananda’s room by friends late at night.
At around 2 am on Sunday, he reportedly fell from a window without grills. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and recorded Bhadrananda’s statement.
When South First contacted the Nilambur Police Station, an official stated that an FIR had been registered and an investigation was underway. The case has been registered under Section 194 (unnatural death) of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
According to the FIR, Kumar fell from the third floor of Park Residency in Nilambur, and he was declared dead by a doctor at the District Hospital, Malappuram. It was the hotel receptionist, Sudhin Das K, who reported the incident to the police. However, the cause behind his fall remains unclear.
Nilambur SI Ajithkumar N, the probing officer in the case, told South First that the body has been sent for inquest as part of the preliminary investigation procedures.
“The investigation is currently in its initial stages. We have already recovered and examined CCTV footage from the premises and recorded the statement of Himaval Bhadrananda, who was reportedly present at the time of the incident,” he said.
The officer added that further steps, including a detailed inquiry and possible legal action, will be initiated only after the inquest report is received.
