Synopsis: The school children and their parents alleged that the teacher, who has been working at the school since 23 June, had punished the students by compelling them to do 200 sit-ups and then forcing them to remove their sacred threads.
A guest physical education teacher at Morarji Desai Residential School in Karkala, Udupi was terminated on Tuesday, 18 November, after he allegedly made students remove their janivaras and other sacred threads.
The school children and their parents alleged that the teacher, who has been working at the school since 23 June, had punished the students by compelling them to do 200 sit-ups and then forcing them to remove their sacred threads.
According to a letter issued by the principal, the teacher was previously warned about these allegations, however, he had not shown any change in his conduct.

According to The Hindu report, Karkala MLA V. Sunil Kumar visited the school on Tuesday, and interacted with students and teachers.
In a statement, the MLA said the school is known for providing quality education at an affordable cost. The conduct of the guest teacher has spoiled the atmosphere in the school. It is unfortunate that such an incident has occurred in Karkala and has the capacity to create a divide in society, he added, stating that effective action needs to be taken to avoid the repetition of such a problem in all Morarji schools.
