A First Investigation Report (FIR) has been filed against the Congress’ Telangana leader for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting a party worker at a five-star hotel in Bengaluru on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Kumbam Shivakumar Reddy. He is currently heading the Congress’ Narayanpet district unit.
He had unsuccessfully contested the the Narayanpet Assembly seat on Telangana Rashtra Samiti (now Bharat Rashtra Samiti) and Bahujan Left Front tickets in 2014 and 2018 respectively.
The victim filed a complaint with Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park Police Station. The police are yet to arrest the accused connected to the case.
According to the police: “The complainant alleged that the accused invited her to a five-star hotel in Bengaluru. He then raped and sexually assaulted her, she said.”
The accused has been booked under Sections 417 (punishment for cheating), 420 (cheating and dishonestly including delivery of property), 376 (punishment for sexual assault) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
DCP (Central) R Srinivas Gowda told South First: “This incident occurred in October 2021. The victim has filed a complaint now seeking justice. She is also a Congress worker in Telangana.”
He added: “We have not yet arrested the accused. The investigation is underway.”
It may be noted that Reddy was booked in a similar case under the Panjagutta Police Station limits in Hyderabad. He was charged with raping a woman on the pretext of marrying her.
This is the second rape and sexual assault case registered against Reddy.
