Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has approached a Bengaluru civil court seeking an injunction against the publication and broadcast of allegedly defamatory material amid the ongoing sting-operation controversy.

The report said the petition was filed on Monday, October 12, before the 18th City Civil and Sessions Court (CCH-18), naming 42 media organisations, including television channels and newspapers, as respondents. The matter was scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, October 13.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Siddaramaiah said, “False propaganda was being spread on social media. I am seeking a stay order against it.”

The development comes amid allegations and counter-allegations between the Congress and JD(S) over the purported sting operation against the former Chief Minister.

Union Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy has questioned Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s alleged links to those behind the purported sting.

The sting operation allegations from last week

Karnataka has been abuzz with sting operation charges recently.

Shivakumar himself had alleged last week that someone tried to discredit him through a sting operation.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Ganiga Ravikumar said on Friday, October 9, that a Union Minister and a Karnataka BJP leader had hired a Delhi-based agency to conduct sting operations against state ministers and embarrass the Congress government.

Ravi claimed they had tried to conduct sting operations targeting 10 Karnataka ministers.

“They planned to conduct sting operations and embarrass the government. But our ministers have clean hands and have not fallen into their trap,” he alleged.

Addressing a news conference in Mandya, he displayed a pen drive and promised to release CCTV footage, audio and video evidence within a week. He also said he would file a complaint.

“We have information about which hotel they have been accommodated in, what resources are being provided to them, and what kinds of fake documents are being created,” Ravi said.

“We will reveal everything before you. What we have shown you now is only a motion poster. This is not even the trailer,” he added.

Referring to the Ramesh Jarkiholi CD scandal, he alleged, “The people who financed the Ramesh Jarkiholi scandal were BJP people. The people who paid the money were BJP people.”
