Synopsis: Without offering evidence, Congress MLA Ganiga Ravikumar said attempts were made to discredit 10 Karnataka ministers. “They planned to conduct sting operations and embarrass the government. But our ministers have clean hands and have not fallen into their trap,” he alleged.

A day after Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar alleged that someone tried to discredit him through a sting operation, Congress MLA Ganiga Ravikumar on Friday, 9 October, said a Union Minister and a Karnataka BJP leader hired a Delhi-based agency to run sting operations against state ministers and embarrass the Congress government.

Ravi claimed they tried to conduct sting operations targeting 10 Karnataka ministers. “They planned to conduct sting operations and embarrass the government. But our ministers have clean hands and have not fallen into their trap,” he alleged.

Addressing a news conference in Mandya, he displayed a pen drive and promised to release CCTV footage, audio and video evidence within a week. He also said he would file a complaint.

“We have information about which hotel they have been accommodated in, what resources are being provided to them, and what kinds of fake documents are being created,” Ravi said.

“We will reveal everything before you. What we have shown you now is only a motion poster. This is not even the trailer,” he added.

Referring to the Ramesh Jarkiholi CD scandal, he alleged, “The people who financed the Ramesh Jarkiholi scandal were BJP people. The people who paid the money were BJP people.”

He further claimed, “The producers, the financiers, the technicians and the masterminds, all of them are BJP people.”

On Thursday, Shivakumar said that attempts had been made to trap him through a sting operation after he assumed office, and he claimed to have evidence identifying those behind the alleged operation.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar made the remarks amid a political controversy over alleged sting operations targeting ministers and government officials. His comments also followed Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s allegation that Shivakumar had previously used a sting operation against former chief minister Siddaramaiah.

“I have all proof. If I have to say something, I don’t speak just for the sake of speaking. I hold a responsible position,” Shivakumar said.

“I know who all are doing it, who is the mastermind behind it, who is financing it, and what they are doing. I know all of it. There is no need for me to speak about all that,” he said.

Asked whether those involved were from Karnataka or other states, Shivakumar declined to disclose their identities, saying, “I’m not going to disclose all that to you. I will answer everything when the time comes.”

“Some people had come to meet me. If I want, I can release all the photographs. For now, I don’t see any need to do that. I know who is doing what,” he added.

Shivakumar claimed he informed police after becoming suspicious of individuals who approached him and had collected information and documents related to their activities.

He also said he had warned government officials to remain vigilant against deliberate attempts to trap them, referring to an earlier sting operation involving a television channel. He further claimed that some individuals had been hired and sent from outside in connection with the alleged activities, but did not identify them.
