Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the government would act against quarries that violate safety rules.
“The collapse of a crusher rock in Madapatna, Bengaluru South taluk, which claimed the lives of seven workers, has caused me profound grief. May God grant eternal peace to the souls of the deceased, give their families the strength to bear this loss, and bless the injured with a speedy recovery,” he wrote in a post on X.
“It is the responsibility of quarry owners to ensure the protection and safety of the workers employed in stone quarries. The government will take appropriate action against quarries that violate the rules.”
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy urged the State government to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and enforce strict safety regulations.
“Along with immediately providing appropriate compensation to the bereaved families, the State government should also extend all other necessary emergency assistance. At the same time, it should enforce strict safety regulations in quarries and direct the concerned department to maintain rigorous oversight,” he wrote in a post on X.
“Such tragedies continue to recur because these stringent measures have not been implemented. It is deeply regrettable that, despite repeated quarry disasters in the State, no action has been taken against anyone. Quarry owners, too, must exercise strict precautions and implement proper safety measures.”
