Synopsis: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah dismissed Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna’s remarks on multiple power centres causing confusion in the government. Rajanna hinted at changes post-September, contrasting Siddaramaiah’s current leadership with his 2013–2018 term. The comments came as Congress marked two years in power.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday, 27 June, speaking to the media reacted to Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna’s comments about changes in the political space.

Disputing the remarks, Siddaramaiah noted: “Where is the internal bickering. There are developments he said. Does not mean it will happen this way… it is better to ignore it, it is deserved to be ignored… (his statements)”

Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna and a close aide of the chief minister while speaking to the media Thursday, 26 June, said, “There are more power centres in the government now, unlike between 2013 and 2018 when Siddaramaiah was the only power centre. When there are more power centres, naturally, there will be more problems and confusion. So the chief minister has to function accordingly.”

“Not only the media or Congress MLAs, but even people are sensing this change. I have heard people saying that Siddaramaiah’s style of functioning is not what it was during his previous stint”

Hinting at possible developments soon, he said, “Now the weather is very cool. Let September get over. You will witness changes.”

2 years to Congress rule

The remarks come as the Congress in Karnataka has completed two years of governance in May.

Marking two years in office, the Congress government on 20 May held a massive rally, Samarpana Sankalpa Samavesha, in Hosapete, Vijayanagara district, framing the occasion not as a celebration but as a rededication to public service.

Organised under the dual banners of Sadhana Samavesha and Janata Samarpana, the rally served both as a report card on Congress’s time in office and as the launchpad for its sixth welfare initiative: Bhoo Guarantee.
