Synopsis: A live human heart was successfully transported through the Bengaluru Metro, ensuring it reached the recipient hospital within the critical time window. BMRCL officials said the quick and safe transportation highlights the Metro’s role in supporting life-saving medical emergencies in the city.
In a coordinated effort, a live human heart was successfully transported through the Namma Metro in Bengaluru on Thursday, 11 September, ensuring it reached the recipient hospital within the critical time window.
A team from Sparsh Hospital in Bengaluru carried the heart from Yeshwanthpur Metro Station to Apollo Hospital at South Parade Ground Metro Station.
A medical team began its journey with the heart at 11.01 pm from Yeshwanthpur Metro Station and reached South Parade Ground Metro Station at 11.21 pm, covering seven stations in just 20 minutes.
Sources said that the smooth transfer was made possible by the assistance of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
In a press release, the BMRCL said that Assistant Security Officer Honne Gowda coordinated security arrangements and worked closely with the medical team throughout the journey.
