Synopsis: Two women were found dead in separate incidents in Raichur district within around 48 hours. Police are investigating the murder of a 35-year-old woman in the latest case, while four men have been detained in connection with the suspected rape and murder of a 21-year-old woman.
Two women were murdered in separate incidents in Karnataka’s Raichur district within a span of around 48 hours.
In the latest incident, a 38-year-old woman was found dead in a field near Karadakal village in Lingasugur taluk on Thursday, 20 August.
According to the FIR filed based on a complaint by her husband, she had left home on Wednesday evening to collect firewood but did not return. Lingasugur Police told South First that she had been murdered and that an investigation was underway to identify and trace those responsible.
Her body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

The incident came close on the heels of the suspected rape and murder of a 21-year-old woman in Hokrani village of Sirwar taluk.
According to the FIR registered by Sirwar Police in the previous case, the woman had returned home with her parents around 6 pm on 19 August after work in the fields. She later left the house around 7 pm to relieve herself on nearby open government land.
When she did not return, her mother went looking for her and found her slippers and water container. The family searched for her through the night.
On the morning of 20 August, the family was informed that a woman’s body had been found in a well in an agricultural area. They reached the spot and identified the deceased.
The FIR said the woman had injuries to her face, including a torn upper lip and lacerations. The naked body was lying facedown in the well.
The FIR named four men: Gundya, 22, Mahanthesh, 22, Veeresh, 23, and Mundargi Basawaraj, around 45, all residents of Hokrani village, as accused.
Police have detained all four. According to an NDTV report, police officials said one of the suspects had confessed to the crime and would be produced before a court.
The woman, who had completed her BA, was reportedly betrothed about a month ago.
Police said they were continuing to investigate both cases.
