A six-year-old Class I student of a private school in Visakhapatnam died on Thursday, 20 August, after allegedly being assaulted by a teacher, triggering protests by his family and raising concerns over student safety.
The deceased, identified as Pranay Teja, was a student of Little Garden School in One Town. According to his family, the boy was allegedly beaten by a teacher after he failed to complete his homework. They alleged that the teacher slapped him during the incident.
The child reportedly lost consciousness on the school premises soon after the alleged assault. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) for a postmortem examination.
Pranay’s parents and relatives alleged that the physical assault led to his death and claimed that CCTV cameras at the school had captured the incident. They demanded that the footage be examined as part of the investigation.
Family members staged a protest at KGH, seeking stringent action against those responsible and stronger safety mechanisms in private schools.
Police have launched an investigation and are awaiting the postmortem report to determine the exact cause of death.
