Synopsis: Minister Priyank Kharge, sharing the news, wrote on X, “Today we launched LEAP – the Local Economy Accelerator Program, a ₹1,000 crore initiative to build innovation and entrepreneurship across Karnataka over the next five years. LEAP will nurture over 5 lakh jobs by supporting startups through a full lifecycle approach with funds, incubators, accelerators, Centres of Excellence and Global Technology Centres.”
The Congress government in Karnataka, on Monday, 22 September, has launched Local Economy Accelerator Program (LEAP).
It is a ₹1,000 crore initiative aims at transforming the state’s innovation landscape beyond Bengaluru.
Minister Priyank Kharge, sharing the news, wrote on X, “Today we launched LEAP – the Local Economy Accelerator Program, a ₹1,000 crore initiative to build innovation and entrepreneurship across Karnataka over the next five years.”
“LEAP will nurture over 5 lakh jobs by supporting startups through a full lifecycle approach with funds, incubators, accelerators, Centres of Excellence and Global Technology Centres.”
He further added, “It includes a ₹300 crore fund of funds, ₹100 crore for deep tech, and focused programs for research, prototyping and skilling. By creating strong ecosystems in Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns, we are making world-class infrastructure, including plug-and-play/co-working facilities, mentorship and market access available to entrepreneurs everywhere. Strengthening local economies across Karnataka continues to be our central priority and LEAP is a big step in that direction.”

According to an Indian Express report, “LEAP is focused on extending this success to emerging clusters such as Mysuru-Chamarajanagar, Mangaluru-Udupi, Hubbali-Belagavi-Dharwad, Tumkur, Kalaburagi, and Shivamogga,” Priyank Kharge said.
