Karnataka Cabinet approves 2% reservation for sportspersons in state civil services

The Cabinet meeting, chaired at the Vidhana Soudha under the headship of CM Siddaramaiah, made several other decisions regarding the state.

In a series of significant decisions, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet in Karnataka on Thursday, 1 February, approved a 2-percent reservation for sportspersons in direct recruitment to the state civil services.

The Cabinet meeting, chaired at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru under the headship of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, also made several decisions regarding the state.

Cabinet decisions

The Cabinet decided to give a 2-percent reservation to sportspersons in direct recruitment to the state civil services after considering the objections received after issuing the Gazette Notification relating to the Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) (Amendment) Rules, 2024.

The Cabinet has given administrative approval to the revised estimate for the construction of a 450-bed hospital building on the premises of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences estimated at ₹142.47 crore.

Administrative approval was also given to undertake the construction of the Kalyana Karnataka Human Genome Study Institute at the Raichur University campus with a Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) grant at an estimated cost of ₹47.32 crore.

For the fiscal year 2023-24, 104 “Karnataka Public Schools” in 93 development-seeking taluks were approved for the development of a learning environment at an estimated cost of ₹60 crore.

The construction of a flyover to connect the newly constructed SRM Visvesvaraya Railway Terminal at Baiyappanahalli area at an estimated cost of ₹263 crore was also given administrative approval.

Other decisions

The Cabinet has given administrative approval to the project report for the construction of 20 lakes in Belagavi’s Uchagaon and Santibaswada hobli at a cost of ₹287.55 crore and the revised project report of ₹519.10 crore for the filling of 61 lakes of Hirebagewadi.

The project report for the construction of a Bridge cum Barrage across the Tungabhadra river near Chikkamanchali village in Raichur taluk with an estimated cost of ₹158.10 crore.

Administrative approval has been given for the completion of all works of the new medical college, boys and girls hostel, teaching and non-teaching hostel and staff hostels under construction on the premises of Haveri Institute of Medical Sciences at a revised estimate of ₹499 crore.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved ₹52.81 crore to develop six industrial training institutes in the state.

The government order issued on 12 January sanctioning ₹120 crore action plan for infrastructure works under BBMP was also approved.

Administrative approval was given for various works including the upgradation of KC General Hospital, Mother and Child Hospital, Landry Building, and STP Upgradation of KC General Hospital in Bengaluru with a total estimated cost of ₹150 crore.

Administrative approval has been given for the completion of all works of the medical college, boys and girls hostel, teaching and non-teaching hostel, staff dormitories in the premises of Chikkamagaluru Institute of Medical Sciences at a revised estimate of ₹455 crore.

Furthermore, administrative approval has been given for a potable water project by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board in 110 newly included villages under BBMP at an estimated cost of ₹208.45 crore.

The Cabinet also approved the government order issued in connection with the waiver of interest of a total of ₹440.20 crores on mid-term, long-term agricultural and agriculture-related loans of farmers who failed to pay the principal amount by 31 December, 2023.
